Key Ingredients
See the recipe card for quantities.
- Fresh mint: Adds that bright, classic Hugo Spritz flavor
- Elderflower liqueur: Adds floral sweetness. St. Germain works beautifully.
- Pineapple coconut juice: Look for a 100% juice blend like the one by Langers Juice.
- Prosecco: Adds bubbles and keeps the drink bright and crisp. Your favorite dry sparkling wine will work.
Substitutions & Variations
- Liqueur swap: Swap elderflower liqueur for limoncello or try the Pina Colada Aperol Spritz or Tropical Tangerine Aperol Spritz.
- Switch the bubbles: Try sparkling wine, cava or even a dry champagne.
- No pineapple coconut juice? Use pineapple juice and coconut water or bottled coconut milk.
- Make it alcohol-free: Swap prosecco for sparkling water and use elderflower syrup instead of liqueur.

Carolyn’s Tips for Making Piña Colada Hugo Spritz
- Lightly muddle the mint: Press gently to release flavor without making it bitter.
- Use chilled ingredients: Cold prosecco and juice keep the spritz crisp and refreshing.
- Mocktail version: Swap prosecco for sparkling water or non-alcoholic prosecco (I love Mionetto’s) and use elderflower syrup instead of liqueur.
Piña Colada Spritz FAQs
Yes! Use a juicer or blend fresh pineapple with a little coconut water, then strain.
A classic Hugo Spritz is made with elderflower, prosecco, mint, and soda water. This version adds pineapple coconut juice for a tropical piña colada-inspired twist.
You can mix the pineapple coconut juice and elderflower liqueur ahead of time and keep it chilled in the fridge. Add the prosecco and mint just before serving to keep the spritz fresh and bubbly.
