Maple Fig Margarita (Fresh Fig Tequila Cocktail)
We’ve been enjoying the last of summery cocktails like my Florecita lately, but it’s finally cooling off and I’m so ready for autumn cocktails!
Figs are only in season a few months each year and I want to savor them with all the fig cocktails like the Fig Gin Gimlet , No Fig Deal with vodka, and The Blind Fig with cognac. So this Maple Fig Margarita landed perfectly for me!
Plenty of fig cocktail recipes use a fig syrup, but I wanted to make this quick and easy with the fig in its freshest form possible and this fresh fig cocktail turned out SO good.
This fig tequila cocktail is the perfect summer to fall transition beverage with the brightness of the lime juice and hints of fall flavors from the maple syrup and cinnamon rim.
Recipe Ingredients
Fresh Figs: I grabbed some black figs from Trader Joe’s!
Tequila: Opt for a good quality tequila. A blanco works great in this recipe. I used 818 Tequila Blanco.
Lime Juice: Fresh squeezed is always best!
Maple Syrup: Look for pure maple syrup. Honey, agave or simple syrup would also work.
Prep your glass: Mix the salt, sugar, and cinnamon on a small plate. Lightly wet the rim of the glass with maple syrup, then dip it into the mixture. Check out my favorite glasses here!
Slice the fig in half and add it into a cocktail shaker. Muddle it until it’s broken down.
Add the tequila, lime juice, and maple syrup to the shaker. Give it a good shake without ice.
Use a fine mesh strainer to remove the fig solids from the mix. Straining the mixture with a fine mesh strainer before adding ice prevents the strainer from getting clogged. A fork or small whisk helps here.
Pour the strained mixture back into the shaker, add ice, and shake until it’s cold.
Fill the prepared glass with ice, strain the cocktail in, and garnish with a lime wheel and a fig half.
Figs are available seasonally and you can generally find them from August to October. If you don’t have fresh figs, replace them with a spoonful of fig jam or fig preserves.
How to make this recipe ahead of time:
While I recommend making this fresh for the best taste, you can mix the cocktail (without ice) in advance and store it in the fridge. Remember to shake it well with ice before serving this fig cocktail!
How to make a batch of Maple Fig Margaritas:
Yes! Multiply the recipe by how many servings you’d like. Instead of muddling the figs, I recommend blending the figs with a splash of water then straining them to create a puree. Add that and all other ingredients to a pitcher. Add ice before serving.
