I love recipes like this because they’re easy enough to make on a whim, but still give a unique appeal when you’re serving them to friends. It’s one of those drinks that looks more complicated than it actually is! The berry jam adds so much flavor without any extra prep, and you can easily adjust the lemon and jam until the cocktail is exactly as sweet or tart as you like. If you want it to feel even more special, the edible flowers, berries and lemon slice garnish are a lovely extra touch.

The Prickly Pear and Rose Gin is the newest addition to the highly praised line of gins from Waterloo Gin. You can still expect the same smooth and botanical profile with the added sweetness of pear and floral notes of the rose. The gorgeous light pink hue delivers a stunning presentation to any drink made with this gin.

Why You’ll Love This Recipe

  • 3 main ingredients: Gin, lemon and berry jam do most of the work, creating a balanced flavor profile.
  • Easy to make and customize: No homemade syrup required. Just add more lemon for brightness or more jam for sweetness.
  • Perfect for entertaining: The berry-sugar rim and floral garnish make it extra pretty.
  • A great way to use jam: Especially when you have an open jar of berry jam in the fridge. It also doubles as both the fruit flavor and sweetener!

Key Ingredients

See the recipe card for quantities.

  • Waterloo Prickly Pear & Rose Gin: The floral and fruity gin provides the base for the cocktail and pairs beautifully with the berry jam.
  • Berry Jam: Strawberry, raspberry, blackberry, or mixed berry jam can all work, depending on the flavor you’re looking for. I used Bonne Maman in this recipe.
  • Fresh Lemon: Fresh lemon juice adds acidity and keeps the jam from making the cocktail overly sweet. Muddling the lemon wedges also releases some of the citrus oils.
  • Freeze-Dried Strawberries + Sugar: Optional for the rim, but they add a fun pop of berry flavor and make the cocktail look extra special.

Substitutions & Variations

  • Berry jam swap: Use fresh or frozen berries muddled with simple syrup or honey.
  • Adjust the sweetness: Use more or less jam depending on how sweet your jam is and your personal preference.
  • Make it more tart: Add extra fresh lemon juice for a brighter, more citrus-forward cocktail.
  • Try a different gin: A floral or fruit-forward gin will work particularly well if you don’t have Waterloo Prickly Pear & Rose Gin.
  • Make it a mocktail: Swap the gin for coconut water or chilled tea like chamomile or green tea.

Sunday Jam (Gin and Jam Cocktail) FAQs

Can you make a cocktail with jam?

Yes! Jam is an easy way to add fruit flavor and sweetness to a cocktail. Berry jams work especially well in gin cocktails and can eliminate the need for a separate fruit syrup.

How do you mix jam into a cocktail?

Add the jam directly to a cocktail shaker with the other ingredients and shake vigorously with ice. The shaking helps break up the jam and incorporate it into the drink.

Do you need to strain a cocktail made with jam?

Straining helps remove larger pieces of fruit and any bits of jam that haven’t fully incorporated. For this recipe, a cocktail strainer gives you a smoother finished drink while still keeping all the berry flavor.

What alcohol goes well with jam?

Gin, vodka, tequila and bourbon can all pair well with jam. Although gin is especially nice with berry jams because its botanical flavors complement the fruit.
