Whenever I plan to host a large group, sangria is always top of mind. It’s versatile, batches well, and is super easy to make. A chilled white wine, coupled with a hint of citrus from the triple sec and the crisp apple cider are the perfect fall day combination. Add in seasonal fresh fruit like apple, orange, persimmon, and pomegranate along with spices such as cinnamon, star anise, and thyme and you have the ultimate pitcher for the season.

With just three main ingredients, and the option to choose your own season fruit and spices, this pitcher whips up in just 10 minutes. You’ll want to make it ahead of time and give the flavors time to meld. Once it’s rested, it’ll be the best apple cider sangria for all your group gatherings this fall.

Recipe Ingredients

See the recipe card for quantities.

  • White wine: You can use any kind of white wine you prefer, but this recipe I chose to use Sauvignon Blanc. Make sure your wine is chilled beforehand.
  • Triple sec: For this recipe I used Cointreau.
  • Apple cider: I recommend using an unsweetened apple cider for the best balance. Spiced cider or a sweetened cider would also work though.
  • Apple, orange, persimmon, pomegranate seeds: Use as the fresh, seasonal fruit, in the sangria.
  • Cinnamon stick, star anise, thyme: Use for garnish as desired.

Tips for Making The Best Apple Cider Sangria With White Wine

  • Customize your sweetness: Use unsweetened apple cider or add a splash of sparkling water for a less sweet cocktail. If you prefer a sweeter cocktail, you can use sweetened apple cider. You can start with less and add more depending on your preference.
  • If time allows, let the sangria chill for 1-8 hours. I always say the longer the better so the flavors have time to develop.
  • Store leftovers in the fridge for up to 48 hours.

Frequently Asked Questions

What type of wine should I use in an Apple Cider Sangria?

You can add any chilled white wine to the Apple Cider Sangria. However, I used Sauvignon Blanc as it is known for being crisp with notes of citrus and apple, which complements this recipe well. If you like a sweeter sangria you can choose a white wine like Moscato or Riesling and if you prefer something more dry, like Chardonnay or Pinot Grigio.

What fruit should I use in an Apple Cider Sangria?

For The Best Apple Cider Sangria, I recommend using apples, oranges, and persimmons. It’s the perfect balance of tart, sweet, and crisp. Some other seasonal fall and winter fruit includes cranberries, pears, and grapefruit.
