Jump to RecipeA Rum Punch can be a compilation of many, unique ingredients, but it typically consists of light or dark rum and a blend of fruit juices like orange or pineapple juice. I used this formula for the Citrus Rum Punch and included a few special ingredients to make this batch cocktail sophisticated and delicious.
For the Citrus Rum Punch, I mixed together a freshly sliced orange, blood orange, and lemon wheels, ginger liqueur, ginger beer, lemon juice, orange juice, and Copalli Cacao Rum for an exciting libation that’s unlike any punch you’ve had before. I wanted this punch to be extraordinary, so I made sure to use a spirit that was unique, premium and balanced beautifully with all the citrus notes and zestiness.
Copalli Rum is the obvious choice for this delicious drink. This specialty organic single-estate rum is made from organic, heirloom sugar cane, canopy water, and yeast sourced from an all organic farm in the heart of the rainforest in Southern Belize! They offer 3 unique varieties – White Rum, Barrel Rested Rum, and Cacao Rum. For this recipe, I used the Copalli Cacao Rum for its rich flavor and aromas.
The origins of the Rum Punch may surprise you! This specialty concoction dates all the way back to the 17th century, so it’s had a lot of time to be perfected. However, it may not surprise you that British sailors were the original creators of the Rum Punch. On their long journeys across the sea, sailors started to notice that in the warmer climates their ale would spoil. In order to continue their favorite pastime, the sailors knew they needed a spirit that would last! When they picked up rum and spices from other ports, they mixed the ingredients together and this became the base for the Rum Punch! The drink quickly grew in popularity and spread quickly throughout other countries.
You can make a Rum Punch using a variety of ingredients, but rum, citrus, and spices are typically the base. The ingredients I added include flavorful fruits and a unique, high-quality rum. For a balanced libation with notes of orange, chocolate, and ginger.
The punch is a practical and simple batch cocktail to make this holiday season. All you have to do is add all ingredients to a punch bowl with ice and stir to combine. To share, divide the mixed drink into cocktail glasses over ice. Serve with sliced citrus, star anise and edible flowers, if desired. You can prepare this batch cocktail in advance. Just add ginger beer and ice right before serving.
This is an ideal cocktail for serving at your next holiday party. Take the work out of mixing and make the Citrus Rum Punch. But, if you’re looking to enjoy this cocktail on your own or with a friend, here’s the recipe for a single serving.
Add Copalli Cacao Rum, ginger liqueur and the citrus juices to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled. Strain into a glass with fresh ice. Top with ginger beer and garnish with an orange slice and mint sprig.
