Spicy Pickle Margarita
Shake up the Spicy Pickle Margarita for National Spicy Margarita Day! It’s made with exciting ingredients like Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila for a fun and flavorful cocktail.
I partnered with Tanteo Tequila to mix up the Spicy Pickle Margarita recipe! Recipe and ideas are my own.

Being the pickle lover that I am, I can’t believe it took me this long to mix up a pickle cocktail! This marg is the perfect blend of sweet and salty, combining unique ingredients like Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila, dill pickle juice, triple sec, lime juice, and a few others creating a delicious spicy cocktail that everyone will love. Seriously! This recipe is husband-approved by Travis who is a known hater of pickles, so you know it’s really good. We’ll be mixing them up for the big football games this weekend too!
Did you know it’s National Spicy Margarita Day on January 26? The Spicy Pickle Margarita is the perfect cocktail to indulge in the celebration.
And even better, for every photo hashtagged with #NationalSpicyMargaritaDay, Tanteo is donating $1 to their partner charity, Un Salto Con Destino. In addition, for every spicy margarita purchased during Spicy Margarita week (1/23-1/30) at participating locations, they are donating $1 to local charities across the U.S. (find them locally HERE).
What’s the Best Tequila to Use for a Spicy Margarita?
Using premium tequila in your margaritas is a must! So, I recommend opting for a spirit like Tanteo Tequila. For this recipe, I used Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila which is an ultra-premium tequila, infused with locally sourced fresh jalapeños. Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila is a delicious blend with the perfect amount of heat to spice up your cocktail.

Ingredients for the Spicy Pickle Margarita
- Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila: Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila is infused with locally sourced, fresh jalapeños to give your cocktail the perfect level of heat.
- Triple sec: I used Cointreau Triple Sec, but you can use your preferred brand of triple sec or orange liqueur. If you’re unsure, check out this article which breaks down the different triple sec brands.
- Dill pickle juice: I prefer to use pickle juice from pickles that you find refrigerated at the grocery store (rather than on the shelves). My favorite is Claussen Dill Pickles. Just strain the juice and add it to your cocktail shaker.
- Agave: I love the subtle sweet taste of agave but feel free to substitute this ingredient for simple syrup, sugar, or honey syrup.
- Lime juice: of course no margarita is complete without a squeeze of fresh lime juice, you can also use bottled lime juice too.
- Sea salt: I used sea salt flakes for the rim and I love this brand, Maldon Salt.
- Chili powder: you can use any brand of chili powder for this recipe, this will be mixed with the sea salt and minced dill in a shallow dish.
- Minced dill: I minced or finely copped some fresh dill. You can pick up a small carton from your local grocery store like this. I find the fresh herbs have a better taste with the cocktail.
- Pickle, jalapenos, dill sprig, lime slice: for the garnish, add a pickle, some jalapenos, a dill sprig, and a lime slice for a finished look.
How to Make the Spicy Pickle Margarita
First, you’ll prepare a cocktail glass with a spice rim. Add sea salt, chili powder, and minced dill to a shallow dish and stir to combine. Use a lime slice to coat the rim of the glass. Submerge the glass into the spice mix until the rim is coated.
Next, add the Tanteo Jalapeño Tequila, triple sec, pickle juice, agave, lime juice, and ice to a cocktail shaker and shake until chilled. Then, fill your prepared cocktail glass with ice and strain the cocktail mixture into the glass. If desired, garnish with a pickle, jalapeno slices, dill sprig, and lime slice. Cheers!
