Why It’s Important to Use Props

Props are a great way to tell a story through your photography. They are meant to complement your subject and give context to the entire scene. Styling your scene with the right props is so important for setting the stage for your food or drink photos. For example, I paired this vibrant Ginger Detox Tonic with a neutral Turkish towel and muted blue plant mister for a balanced yet bright summer photo.

Not only are props meant to enhance your photos but they are also a great way to create conversation or engagement especially if you’re posting your photos on social media. I frequently get asked what props I use when posting on Instagram, so it’s a fun way to spark conversation and creativity!

I also get asked about the glassware that I use, if you’re curious, you can find some of my fav glassware here.

List of Summer Props

  1. Drink caddy: Linked here. This caddy is great for desserts, milkshakes, cocktails, and summer beverages. It also comes with really cute spoons and glasses, that can be used as additional props.
  1. Turkish towel: Linked here. Mix and match this neutral towel with bright pops of color. P.S. this product doubles as a beach towel and swimsuit cover-up. Talk about versatility!
  1. Plant mister: Linked here from World Market, but check out this Amazon version here. This is a fun summer product not only can you use it to spray your plants but I’m loving these muted pastel colors for the summer, plus they look really nice next to bright cocktails!
  1. Woven placemat: Linked here. Feature this placemat under bright, colorful drinks or food to add some depth and texture.
  1. Flowers from the garden: there’s nothing better than fresh flowers from the garden, plus they’re free! If you don’t have a garden you can always purchase artificial ones like these peonies
