Jump to RecipeWith March Maddness here, I was inspired to craft a cocktail that’s both bold and fiery! The Smokin’ Hot Hibiscus Mule is a unique twist on the classic Moscow Mule and combines smoky mezcal, zesty jalapeño, and vibrant Q Mixers Hibiscus Ginger Beer for a burst of flavor and spice.
The robust depth of charred lime and bold tequila kicks up the flavor profile in this drink. If tequila just isn’t your thing, feel free to lean towards a more traditional Moscow Mule and use a high quality vodka. Even if the team you want is falling flat, your drink shouldn’t!

Crafting the Smokin’ Hot Hibiscus Mule is a breeze, so you can enjoy this sensational drink in just a matter of minutes! Start by cutting a lime in half and brushing it with oil before charring it on a pan over medium heat. Next, squeeze the juice of half of the charred lime into a mule mug and add jalapeno slices, muddling them to release their spiciness.
Fill the mug with ice and add mezcal, tequila, and Q Mixers Hibiscus Ginger Beer. Give it a gentle stir to combine the flavors. If you’re feeling extra festive, garnish your Smokin’ Hot Hibiscus Mule with a charred lime slice, additional jalapeno slices, and a delicate hibiscus flower!
What makes Q Mixers Hibiscus Ginger Beer ideal for this cocktail?
Q Mixers Hibiscus Ginger Beer stands out as the perfect choice due to its premium ingredients, reduced sweetener content, and max carbonation. It not only complements the smokiness of mezcal and the kick of tequila but also adds a unique floral note that sets this cocktail apart.
How spicy is this drink?
The jalapeno adds a subtle heat, but it’s not overpowering. Feel free to adjust the amount of jalapeno to your spice preference.
Can I substitute mezcal with tequila or vice versa?
While both mezcal and tequila bring unique characteristics to the table, you can always experiment with the ratio based on your preference. If you prefer a bolder smokiness, increase the mezcal; for a cleaner profile, adjust in favor of tequila.
Why char the lime before adding it to the drink?
Charring the lime enhances its natural flavors, imparting a smoky essence that beautifully contrasts with the floral and spicy notes in the Smokin’ Hot Hibiscus Mule. It’s a simple yet impactful step that elevates the overall drinking experience.
