The Strawberry Southside Fizz Mocktail

Now that I’m pregnant and can’t enjoy my favorite cocktails (counting down the days until I can) I’m on a mission to make my mocktails even more exciting and the Strawberry Southside Fizz Mocktail may take the crown for this category.

Made with ingredients like strawberries, mint leaves, juniper syrup, citrus juices, and sparkling water for a refreshing, effervescent, and non-alcoholic mixed drink that can be enjoyed for any occasion! Is your mouth watering yet?

How Can I Make This Mocktail into a Cocktail?

If you’re wanting to add a little more excitement to this already unique drink. I recommend checking out the Strawberry Southside Cocktail. It uses fewer ingredients but packs a little more punch with the addition of a spirit.

Wondering what other liquor would mix well in this drink? Here are some options:

  • Vodka
  • Gin
  • White rum

Ingredients for the Strawberry Southside Fizz Mocktail

If you’re feeling fizzy and you’re ready to sip on the Strawberry Southside Fizz Mocktail, here’s what I included in the non-alcoholic mixed drink.

  • Strawberries: muddle up a fresh strawberry as the base of this cocktail. Make sure to save a strawberry for the garnish too. BTW, I used Driscoll’s Strawberries.
  • Mint leaves: toss in fresh mint leaves with the strawberry and muddle together to infuse the fresh herb and fruit mixture. I picked up my produce and fresh herbs from Sprouts Supermarket.
  • Juniper syrup: see the recipe card below for how I make my homemade Juniper Syrup. Add this specialty syrup to a sealable jar and refrigerate for a few weeks. Use this syrup for other cocktails, mocktails, or baking recipes.
  • Lime juice: squeeze fresh lime juice into your mixture for some citrus notes.
  • Lemon juice: it’s optional to add a little lemon juice. If you prefer your mocktail to be sweeter you don’t have to add this.
  • Citrus sparkling water: top this mocktail with some sparkling water. I used Keylime La Croix (one of my favs!)
  • Edible flowers, mint sprig, and strawberry: garnish your completed cocktail with a sprig of mint, strawberry, and an edible flower.

How to Make the Strawberry Southside Fizz Mocktail

Before putting together your mocktail, let’s make the specialty Juniper Syrup. This is one of my favorite flavored simple syrups and it’s pretty easy to DIY.

Start by adding all the ingredients (sugar, water, and crushed dried juniper berries) to a small saucepan over medium heat and bringing the mixture to a boil, stirring occasionally. Reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 minutes over low heat. Remove from heat and all the mixture to cool. Use a fine-mesh strainer to strain the liquid into a jar, discarding berries. Store in an airtight container in the refrigerator. This syrup can last for a few weeks and you can use it for other mocktails (or cocktails).

Now, it’s time to make the Strawberry Southside Fizz Mocktail! Start by adding the strawberry, mint leaves, and juniper syrup to a glass and gently muddle. This will infuse the ingredients together and release all the fresh flavors adding depth to this mocktail.

Next, add the fresh lime and lemon juice and stir it all together using a bar spoon. Complete this mocktail by filling a glass with crushed ice and topping it with citrus sparkling water. Garnish with strawberry, mint, and an edible flower. Stir before enjoying.
