Jump to RecipeHave you ever tasted nearly 100-year-old spirit? The Blind Fig is my take on blending history with contemporary flair, drawing inspiration from the vibrant Roaring Twenties. At its core, this cocktail celebrates BHAKTA 1928 Straight Rye Whiskey, Calvados, and Armagnac – spirits that have aged gracefully over nearly a century, each with a rich and flavorful heritage.
This cocktail is like a distant cousin of the classic Whiskey Sour, but with a twist. BHAKTA 1928’s century-old spirit marries with ripe figs, zesty Meyer lemon juice, a touch of honey, citrus bitters, and velvety egg white. It’s a balanced blend that bridges the gap between the past and the present, giving the perfect taste of what it’s like to sip on 100-year-old spirits!
BHAKTA 1928 Straight Rye Whiskey, Calvados, and Armagnac, combines centuries of tradition with innovative craftsmanship to create an exquisite cocktail experience, like in the Blind Fig. BHAKTA 1928, renowned for its bold rye spice and fruity notes, embodies the spirit of artisanal distillation. It finds perfect synergy with Calvados, a French apple brandy celebrated for its alluring fruitiness, and Armagnac, a distinguished French brandy with a legacy of complexity.
Named “1928” for the oldest vintage in the blend, it also contains 1941, 1962 and 1973, fusing ancient French Armagnacs and Calvados to perfect this Rye whiskey. These spirits, each unique and celebrated in its own right, unite to craft a sophisticated sensory journey, brimming with history and flavor. Visit here to easily purchase online or locally!
Let’s dive into mixing up the Blind Fig! Add a ripe fig, Meyer lemon juice and honey to a cocktail shaker. Use a muddler or the back of a wooden spoon to muddle the mixture until the fig is broken down and the honey dissolves. Add BHAKTA 1928 Straight Rye Whiskey, Calvados & Armagnac, citrus bitters, a dash of pure vanilla extract, and ice to the shaker. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is chilled.
Next, set up a fine mesh strainer over a cup. I used a liquid measuring cup. Strain the cocktail mixture through the mesh strainer. Clean the cocktail shaker and return the strained mixture to the shaker. Add an egg white and shake until a thick foam forms. Finally, pour the cocktail mixture into a classic coupe glass, and if desired, garnish with a fresh fig, a fragrant rosemary sprig, and a slice of dehydrated lemon.
