It’s finally the weekend and that means it’s time for some fun (and in this case, a shot). And if you’re wanting to switch it up from your typical G&T or boring beer, I have a delicious and simple shot that you and your friends will love!
The Bitter Citrus Shooter is a fun shot to make for your end-of-the-week festivities and it’s the perfect way to brighten up your weekend.
This Bitter Citrus Shooter is not complete without Romana Sambuca. This distinct and flavorful liqueur includes notes of licorice and star anise, making it an exceptional liqueur to pair with fresh ingredients like grapefruit.
And the Romana Sambuca adds sweetness, so it balances beautifully with the grapefruit to give you a delicious and lightly-sweetened shot. I definitely recommend following the shot with a rosemary sugar dipped grapefruit wedge to further enhance the bitter and sweet flavors of the drink.

Equipment
- Cocktail shaker
- Shot glasses
- Shallow dish
Materials
- 4 oz Romana Sambuca
- 1 oz grapefruit juice (plus grapefruit slices)
- 4 dashes bitters
- ½ tbsp sugar
- ¼ tsp chopped rosemary
Instructions
- Add Romana Sambuca and grapefruit juice to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake until chilled.
- Strain into 2 shooter glasses. Top each shooter with 2 dashes of bitters.
- Combine sugar and rosemary in a shallow dish. Dip grapefruit slices in rosemary sugar. Take the shooter and follow with the grapefruit slice.
