Meet your new favorite martini. It’s creamy, rich, and oh-so decadent! It’s not your traditional tipple but this vodka-based mixed drink will be your new fall-time favorite. Made with only a few ingredients, and the glass is rimmed with maple syrup and pumpkin spice. Shake it up for yourself or grab a few friends and make it for your next happy hour. Either way, you’re going to love it!
Recipe Ingredients
See the recipe card for quantities.
- Vanilla Vodka: You can use your preferred brand of vanilla vodka or a high quality regular vodka if you don’t have vanilla.
- Coffee liqueur: For this cocktail, I used Kahlua which gives the perfect balance of that delicious, mellow coffee taste.
- Pumpkin purée: Pick up a can of pure pumpkin puree from your local grocery store.
- Espresso: Espresso or cold brew concentrate work for this cocktail.
- Half and half: to make this cocktail thicker and richer, add half and half or your favorite non-dairy milk.
- Pumpkin pie spice: Aka cinnamon, nutmeg, cloves and ginger. Cinnamon would also work!
- Sugar: For the rim. I use granulated sugar but you could also get creative and use brown sugar!
- Maple syrup: For the rim.
- Star anise: For garnish.

How to Make This Recipe
Step 1: Start by preparing a coupe glass with a sugar and spice rim: Add sugar and 1/4 tsp pumpkin pie spice to a shallow dish and stir to combine. Add a dash of maple syrup to a second shallow dish. Coat the rim of the glass with maple syrup and submerge in the sugar and spice mixture until the rim is coated.
Step 2: Once your glass is rimmed, add all ingredients for the cocktail to a cocktail shaker with ice. Shake vigorously until the outside of the shaker is chilled. Double-strain the cocktail mixture into a prepared glass using a fine mesh strainer.
Step 3: Top with a sprinkle of pumpkin pie spice and star anise, if desired. Cheers!
Tips for Making a Pumpkin Spice Espresso Martini
- Cool the espresso before shaking, to avoid melting the ice and diluting your cocktail too much.
- Taste your mixture before straining and modify to your taste. You may want to add a dash of maple syrup, especially if you use regular vodka.
