Kagatan: A Filipino Classic Cocktail
Kagatan is a cocktail that captures the essence of the Philippines in a glass, made with rum, condensed milk, and cold brew!
Jump to RecipeMy dad was born in the Philippines and I’m always excited to learn more about Filipino culture, food and drinks. So when I heard about the Kagatan, a traditional Filipino cocktail that comes together with three simple ingredients in under five minutes, I knew I had to try it!
Kagatan is a classic cocktail that fuses the robust essence of cold brew coffee with the sweetness of condensed milk and the unmistakable character of rum. This well-balanced, three-ingredient concoction stands as a testament to the beauty of simplicity. Kagatan offers a distinctive flavor profile that’s both familiar and intriguing, making it an enticing option for those looking to explore the world of cocktails with a touch of Filipino flair.
The cold brew provides a bold backdrop, while the sweetened condensed milk adds a touch of creamy sweetness. If you’re dairy free, opt for sweetened condensed coconut milk as an alternative. I used Kasama Rum, a rum from the Philippines, but feel free to use whichever rum you have on hand. If you’re looking for a refreshing cocktail that packs a punch of caffeine (and culture) in every sip, look no further than this cocktail.
The Kagatan is the pick-me-up that couldn’t be easier to mix up! Start by adding the cold brew and sweetened condensed milk to a cocktail glass. Stir gently until the condensed milk blends with the cold brew. Fill the glass with ice. Pour in your preferred rum. Give it a gentle stir. If desired, sprinkle a few coffee beans and add an edible flower.
