The Creamy Coconut Margarita

Margaritas aren’t just a cocktail for the warmer months, in fact, if there’s one cocktail that I love to sip on year-round, it’s a marg! The Creamy Coconut Margarita is an ode to one of my favorite margaritas but with a festive touch. Plus, it gave me an excuse to incorporate a special ingredient!

The best way to make your margarita festive for the holidays is to use fresh and seasonal ingredients like pumpkin puree, apple cider, and cranberry juice alongside seasonal herbs and produce. Examples of seasonal produce and herbs to use for fall and winter cocktails include:

  • Cranberries
  • Figs
  • Pears
  • Pomegranates
  • Sage
  • Rosemary
  • Thyme

Ingredients for the Creamy Coconut Margarita

For this recipe, I used only four ingredients to create one of my favorite margaritas. It’s the perfect balance of sweet, tart, and creaminess for a tropical cocktail with a festive touch. See what I used below and some recommendations for this cocktail recipe.

  • Toasted coconut: For a fun and flavorful rim on your cocktail glass, add some toasted coconut! You can make your own at home or pick some up at the grocery store. To make your own at home, add a cup of shredded coconut to a pan (preferably a skillet), keep the stove top temperature on low to medium, and frequently stir until you have a tanned and lightly toasted product.
  • Tequila: You can’t have a margarita without tequila! Add your preferred tequila to this recipe. I like using blanco tequila for my margaritas, so I recommend using Espolon Tequila or Teremana Tequila
  • Island Oasis Pina Colada Mix: Bring the tropical vibes to this cocktail with this special mix. Made with real fruit juice and cane sugar, the Pina Colada Mix by Island Oasis is a one-of-a-kind blend made with pineapple and coconut.
  • Fresh lime juice: For a hint of acidity, squeeze some fresh lime juice into your cocktail shaker. You can use store-bought lime juice, but I prefer the taste of fresh lime juice.
  • Cranberries, mint, lime: Make this tropical cocktail feel festive for the holidays with a fun garnish. I used cranberry, mint sprig, and lime slice to create a simple holiday garnish. If you have a toothpick or cocktail pick you can make your garnish ingredients resemble a mistletoe!

How to Make the Creamy Coconut Margarita

Making the Creamy Coconut Margarita could not be any simpler. Thanks to Island Oasis for creating delicious ready-to-use mixes, this cocktail can be crafted in under 10 minutes! Once you’ve gathered your ingredients – Island Oasis Pina Colada Mix, toasted coconut, tequila, lime juice, and the cranberries, mint sprig, plus a lime slice for your garnishes, then the magic begins!

Get your cocktail glass ready by rimming it with the toasted coconut. You can do this by using a lime wedge around the rim and then dipping it in the shallow dish of toasted coconut. You can also use honey or agave syrup in lieu of the lime wedge.

Then, add your Island Oasis Pina Colada Mix, tequila, and lime juice to a cocktail shaker with ice and shake vigorously. Strain your mixture into your prepared glass with fresh ice. Last step is your garnish. Add fresh cranberries, a mint sprig, and lime wheel or wedge and top the cocktail with it.
