Frozen Espresso Martini

With the rising temps, I love a drink that not only cools me down but also packs a caffeine punch. Enter the Frozen Espresso Martini, the ultimate summer beverage that perfectly marries the invigorating essence of coffee with the coolness of a frozen cocktail.

I’m sipping on this elevated version of everyone’s favorite Espresso Martini as frozen americano ice cubes come together with Kahlua, vodka, simple syrup, and ice. The Frozen Espresso Martini is the perfect fusion of robust coffee notes, bold spirits, and a refreshing icy texture that will delight you from the first sip. Cheers!

What is Kahlua?

This velvety liqueur hails from Mexico and is known for its rich blend of rum, vanilla, and 100% Arabica coffee. Its smooth, deep flavor profile makes it a favorite choice for coffee-based cocktails. The robust notes of coffee and the touch of sweetness in Kahlua complement the intensity of the espresso and lend a creamy texture – perfect for the Frozen Espresso Martini!

Ingredients for the Frozen Espresso Martini

  • Chilled Americano or Cold Brew: Chilled americano (espresso and water) or cold brew provides the perfect icy base for blending. Use your favorite brand, I prefer Starbucks.
  • Kahlua: The rich and smooth coffee liqueur adds a depth of flavor. Go for the classic Kahlua to keep it authentic.
  • Vodka: Use your favorite vodka. I like the crisp and clean taste of White Claw Vodka.
  • Simple Syrup: To balance out the bitterness of the espresso and enhance the overall sweetness, add simple syrup.  I used Stirrings Simple Syrup
  • Ice: For that perfect frosty texture.
  • Coffee Beans: A few coffee beans sprinkled on top make for an eye-catching garnish.

How to Make the Frozen Espresso Martini

Making this Frozen Espresso Martini couldn’t be easier and most of your prep time will be freezing the americano or cold brew. Start by pouring the chilled americano or cold brew into an ice cube mold and let it freeze until solid. In a blender, add in the coffee ice cubes, Kahlua, vodka, simple syrup, and ice. Blend it all up until you achieve a smooth and creamy texture. Divide into two coupe glasses and, if desired, top with a few coffee beans for garnish.
