If you’re looking for the perfect holiday sangria recipe, this is it. Tart, sweet and full of winter spice, this Spiced Cranberry Holiday Sangria tastes like Christmas cheer. Make the spiced cranberry syrup in advance, then throw everything into a pitcher come party time and forget it. This large batch drink is going to be your favorite thing to sip on during all your holiday festivities.
I’m not going to lie, the days of using cranberry juice as the go-to vodka mixer ruined cranberry cocktails for me for a while. Luckily, I was inspired by my friend Natalie at Arsenic Lace to make a cranberry syrup and now I want to use it in everything. The simple 3 ingredient Spiced Cranberry Honey Syrup is the perfect combo of tart and sweet and has a healthy amount of festive spice.
You can make this recipe without any special cocktail tools, which is an added bonus if you’re traveling or making it in someone else’s home. It probably wouldn’t hurt if you brought your host a few cocktail tools to get their home bar started. Check out my cocktail tool guide for gift ideas.
Spiced Cranberry Holiday Sangria

Yields: 6-8 servings
- 1 cup dark rum
- ¼ cup Spiced Cranberry Honey Syrup (see below)
- 1 orange, sliced
- 1/2 cup cranberries
- 1 bottle Risata Brachetto d’Acqui, chilled
- Brûléed orange slices for garnish (optional)
Add dark rum, Spiced Cranberry Honey Syrup and sliced orange to a pitcher. Use a wooden spoon to break down the orange slices a bit (if doing this step in advance, store in the refrigerator until ready to serve). Before serving, add cranberries and Risata Brachetto d’Acqui to the pitcher and stir. Serve with brûléed orange slices.
Spiced Cranberry Honey Syrup
- ½ cup water
- ½ cup honey
- 2 tbsp mulling spices
- ¾ cup cranberries
Add all ingredients to a small saucepan and stir. Bring to a boil over medium heat. Reduce heat and simmer for 3 to 5 more minutes or until the cranberries have all popped and are broken down. Strain into a jar and store for up to 2 weeks in the refrigerator.
